The Crew is organized exclusively for social, educational purposes, and more specifically, community awareness and development. (CREW) is a non-profit organization consisting of four areas of specialization: Education, Culture, Career Exploration and Community Development. C.R.E.W will serve as a material and human resource that will seek to present a positive and productive environment in the Western, Massachusetts area

and surrounding communities.

Who Is The Crew?

The Collectively Recognizing Empowerment Within, Inc (the C. R. E. W.), is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization. which stands for Collectively, (means a group), Recognizing, (means to acknowledge) Empowerment, (means becoming strong), Within, (means something that we do for ourselves). The C.R.E.W. is organized exclusively for educational purposes, social and more specifically, community awareness and development. The C.R.E.W. is a group of sixteen (16) African-American Men who believe that education, culture, career exploration and community development are the keys to healthy community.

The C.R.E.W. has the following yearly projects:

(1) Two (2) high school senior scholarships to attend a college of their choice; (2) Book reading at Rebecca Johnson and Brooking Elementary Schools; (3) Black History month presentations at Rebecca Johnson and Brooking Elementary Schools; (4) Fishing Experience teaching 30 children how to fish at Camp Atwater; (5) Four partially paid Camp Atwater Camperships for two boys and two girls; (6) Safety and Health Awareness Day for youth and adults – “We got Game”; (7) Backpack give-a-way for school aged youth; (8) Can drive for other various charities; (9) Welcome back to elementary schools with high fives for inner city youth; (10) Veterans’ dinner; (11) Turkey give-a-way for senior and families for Thanksgiving; (12) Toys for Tots give-a -way for the youth of community; and (13) Christmas Dinners for Springfield Public Housing families.

The C.R.E.W. works with other civil, social and non-profit organizations to further educational, social, community awareness and development projects.
